>> Mosman Reconciliation Group

Our objective is to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reconciliation throughout Mosman and surrounding communities.

We are a group of sincere people of many ages and diverse backgrounds, religious and political beliefs. We enjoy the support of Mosman Municipal Council and work closely with other reconciliation groups where appropriate. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month, starting at 6pm at the Senior Citizens Centre of Mosman Council.

The activities we have undertaken include:

ALL WELCOME, DO COME AND LEND A HAND

THIS IS OUR WAY TO RECONCILIATION

Mosman Reconciliation was established as a community group in 1998 following meetings along the northern beaches promoting Aboriginal Reconciliation and Native Title. Over the years we’ve developed into a community of people committed to supporting Indigenous Australians in their broader struggle for justice.

We’ve been involved in numerous Reconciliation projects including public meetings with Indigenous and non-Indigenous speakers who support Reconciliation including Governor Marie Bashir, former Senator Aden Ridgeway, Linda Burney MP, Olga Havnen and Jackie Huggins. We have helped in promoting Aboriginal heritage, regional and state Reconciliation activities and the Sea of Hands at Balmoral Beach.

We were instrumental in having our local member, Tony Abbott, present Aboriginal and Torres islander flags to all the schools in Mosman, Cremorne and Neutral Bay.

Mosman Council was among the first to fly the Aboriginal flag and both the Council and Mosman Reconciliation b egin their meetings with an Acknowledgement of Country.

Every year during NAIDOC (national Aboriginal and Torres Islander Day Observance Committee) week, we invite the local schools to contribute artwork by students for public display in Mosman Art Gallery, Library, cinemas and banks.

Our year-round activities include keeping ourselves and the wider community informed about Aboriginal issues and events, organizing information nights with guest speakers, films and discussions, and working with other social justice groups. We are members of the Northern Sydney Region Reconciliation Network, the NSW reconciliation Council, and Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation (ANTaR NSW).

We hope you will join us.
