About the NSW Ambassadors Program
Ambassadors for Reconciliation are eminent Australians who speak out and show their support for reconciliation and Aboriginal rights. The NSW Ambassadors program was launched in Reconciliation Week 2004 by the NSW Reconciliation Council.
The two inaugural Ambassadors for Reconciliation are Senator Aden Ridgeway and Linda Burney MP, two high profile politicians and community activists who have long been passionate and relentless campaigners for reconciliation. In September 2004 Col Markham, former Parliamentary Secretary of Aboriginal Affairs and a member of the Myall Creek Memorial Committee, became the first Regional NSW Ambassador for Reconciliation.

More information about the NSW Ambassadors for Reconciliation
The NSW Reconciliation Council will be unveiling new Ambassadors for Reconciliation over the coming months. The future Ambassadors will be selected from a range of sectors illustrating that reconciliation is an issue for the whole community - for all Australians.
The role of the Ambassadors for Reconciliation is to provide inspiration and encouragement for those individuals and community groups that live reconciliation everyday, as well as to provide information about how all of us can participate in the work of the reconciliation movement - at home, in the workplace and in the community.
Most importantly, the NSW Ambassadors for Reconciliation raise awareness and understanding about the 'unfinished business' which must be dealt with before reconciliation can be achieved, including the continued disadvantage, discrimination and opposition to self-determination faced by Aboriginal Australians. The Ambassadors for Reconciliation Program moves forward in recognition that a reconciled Australia requires not only leadership but real outcomes for Aboriginal people at the local, state and national level.
